The Stage

Author's Note: I meant to post this a couple of days ago but really lacked on my revision standpoint.  This is my last response to The Truman Show.  I wanted to do a poem because it seemed like a good topic to do a poem on unlike the first post I did on The Truman Show.  I am trying to leave it in open forum but closed forum for this piece.  Please leave feedback and comments.

The Stage so bright
as the lights go up
and the spotlight
shines down right on you

you are the star
but you don't know it
your normal life
is a show

you are on the stage
with a bunch of actors
but those actors control you
and your every movement

you are a puppet
in their show
but you are living you life
or so you thought

every step you take
is spotlighted on T.V.
but you don't know
you are in the spotlight

they play your life
like its as important as a pawn
and you have no decision
in what you do

but you keep going along
like you are living
but the real fact is
your life is nothing but a stage

  1. Some of the good elements I see here are repetition in the wording, and the use of stanzas. i would say that the content also works well with the theme you what to write about. Do look, however, at the way you selected some of your words, almost haphazardly. Pay attention to the economy of writing when you write poetry, that is, the fact that everything is very much on purpose, and nothing is a random plodding about.

  2. I like the repetition of this Chandler, and the way you ended the poem with the last line, very neat. I like how you made this poem very relatable to the movie, and if you hadn't told me it was a response to the Truman show, I could have probably have guessed it. Great job.

  3. Like the others said, I liked the way you repeated words in the beginning of each stanza. I especially like the last line in the poem, because it sums it up as a whole, and ties it off very nicely. Overall, great poem!

  4. I really liked the ending. It was a good closing, but it gave you something to think about. I liked all of the different ideas you had and talked about in it.
